Who's Building Your House?

Have you ever found yourself in a period of expectancy? Of waiting? Of knowing that the Lord is going to take you into a new season of life, but you can't even begin to imagine what it might look like? That was me last fall. I had entered into a five-month-long period of prayer, Bible study, rest, and waiting—a sweet time unlike anything I'd ever experienced where the Lord gently whispered, "Be still and know that I am God,” (Psalm 46:10).

During this time, in faith I prayed that the Lord would bring along a job—not just any job, but one that would suit my giftings and my schedule as a mom. And in faith, I prayed that the publisher who had expressed interest in publishing my book would make the decision to move forward. Though I didn't know what the Lord would do, I knew He had a plan, that He was working, and the He would bring about His good will and purpose in my life.

And He did.

In January 2024, the perfect job fell in my lap in a way that can only be called “a God thing,” and even though I'd spent most of a decade at home raising my kids, I soon got the hang of things and did the job well. Then the following month, I received the news I'd been longing for—the publisher had decided to move ahead with my book! My childhood dream of becoming an author was going to become a reality! My joy and gratitude to the Lord soared.

None of this was accomplished by my will, nor by my might, but by the Lord's. Psalm 127:1-2 says:

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.”

Today I encourage you to bring Jesus into the center of whatever it is that you're trying to accomplish, whether it be chasing busy kids around the house, meeting deadlines at work, surviving another overwhelming day, or pursuing the dream God's put in your heart. Turn to Him for wisdom and strength, listen to His still, small voice, and know that He is good.

Oh, and if you're wondering about my book, it's still going to be awhile before it’s released, but I'd love for you to read my story on here on my site in the meantime.

Grace and peace to you,

Christin
